The symptoms of CTE include memory loss, confusion, impaired judgment, impulse control problems, aggression, depression, anxiety, suicidality, parkinsonism, and, eventually, progressive dementia.
CTE is caused by repetitive brain trauma, such that occurs on a regular basis in football.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Adrian Peterson and many other NFL players in the news lately have CTE. Sure, they could be horrible people who would have been horrible even without brain damage… But it’s not that much of a leap to conclude that their brains are damaged, leading to many of the symptoms above. Sure it’s said that this disease usually doesn’t become apparent until years after they have finished playing, but so little is known about this disease that symptoms may develop much sooner but go unchecked by a league that wants to pretend CTE isn’t real. In the League of Denial documentary, a high school football player was shown to have developed it.
The NFL has the highest rate of arrest out of all professional sports in America. It also has the highest incidence of concussions.
Just something to think about.
